Fake story about girls dreadlocks being cut off- exposed

Colvin was arrested March 2, 1955

She gave birth to a son March 1956

In your recollection was she carrying a baby for over a year in her stomach when she refused to give up he seat?

I guess my memory of it was a little off. I had heard the story that Rosa didn't want to use her in their case because she was pregnant. I just assumed she was pregnant on the bus, but now reading up on it, I can see a few months had passed after the incident that she got pregnant. It's still true though that it's one of the 3 reasons they didn't want to use her for their case.

All sorts of facts like this can get jumbled up though when there are two different "truths".

But the gist of the story is what I'm pointing at, not mundane details. The story was a set up, just like the way Edison stole peoples work, Rosa stole this story.

Rosa got all sorts of fame and awards for this made up story. The medal of freedom, streets and buildings named after her. Even an Asteroid was named after her. What did poor Claudette get? A footnote in history.

I will always see Claudette as the hero and Rosa as the thief.

I don't see Rosa as a thief because Claudette was a party to the lawsuit that challenged the segregation laws on the bus. She was a 16 year old girl, would have been quite a lot of pressure to handle. But Montgomery, AL established a Claudette Day and wanted to get her enshrined in the museum down there but she refused. History is trying to give her back her due.

Rosa was not the pioneer in this but was just as brave getting arrested for refusing to give up her seat and participating in the movement even if she was not among the first.

I think it is fair to give Claudette her due but not really fair to strip Rosa so much, she still stood up to the segregation but the movement chose her to be the face and moving force. I doubt Rosa forced everyone to put her on that pedestal, especially after MLK got involved.

There are many nameless heroes in that struggle unfortunately so I don't think the few that get the credit should be seen as stolen valor, in most cases the movement itself hoisted them up there.

yes i agree with you
it may be that the family retreated for the school's pressure on the girl's family
I just think that not everything is so obvious
The 12-year-old girl told the truth Sunday night to her family, and told our Mikea Turner Monday morning that she made the story up, and that she is sorry
