Fail this question you should give up trading

in case its was a real question :

If StartDist (between the cars) = > 100 , then answer is 60

If StartDist < 100 , then :

(StartDist / CarSpeedPerMin*2)*BirdSpeedPerMin

Ah contraire my new friend.

There are some amazingly talented traders on this board, who are more than willing to share freely of their information and talent - Bolter happens to be one of them (his Market Profile thread was a joy to read, a pity he choose to close it early - well, early for me:) :) ), as are a few others who have responded with wit and whimsy to WSY's question.

The board choose to take it light and blow off steam, or couldn't figure out the trick question, or whatever, so fine, that doesn't make them (or me) even remotely, uh as you say, stupid.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, no offence intended to you Bolter. The point remains that it was a quite a simple question. All the joking aside people got very sidetracked on this one. I think there is real relevance (with regards to trading) there.

No offence taken faure.

This was an interetsing thread WSY - and demonstrates how most of us fail to discern the plain simple truth when presented with a bunch of information/data.

A great metaphor indeed.

Quote from Thunderdog:

OK, and now for a puzzle with more practical, real-world application. :D

A man is on an island with a bale of hay, a goat and a pet wolf. (Don't ask, just go along with it.) He has a small boat only large enough for himself and one other passenger or item. Meaning he can only take either the bale or the goat or the wolf with him at one time. He needs to get to the mainland with all 3. However, if he takes the hay, the wolf will eat the goat. If he takes the wolf, then the goat will eat the hay. He must be present to ensure that neither of these things happen. There is no one to prevent these events from occurring on the mainland, nor is there any way to either tie or shelter either of the animals, or protect the hay from getting eaten if he were to leave it alone with the goat.

How, then, does he manage to get himself, his two animals and his hay across the water to the mainland without the wolf eating the goat, or the goat eating the hay while he is on the other side or in transit?

P.S. If you don't know the correct answer, then you should stop trading and send me your money. If you DO know the correct answer, then you may continue trading, but you should still send me your money.

he travels first with the goat, drop it off, return and pick the hay up to the mainland. upon arrival, he drops the goat and picks the hay in his trip back to the island. when he arrives to the island, he drops the hay and picks the wolf up. he drops the wolf in the main land and picks the goat up. he drops the goat on the island and picks up the hay. he then drops the hay on the mainland and heads to the island to pick the goat up.

ARTHUR:
So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this land, through the kingdom of Mercia, through--
SOLDIER #1:
Where'd you get the coconuts?
ARTHUR:
We found them.
SOLDIER #1:
Found them? In Mercia? The coconut's tropical!
ARTHUR:
What do you mean?
SOLDIER #1:
Well, this is a temperate zone.
ARTHUR:
The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
SOLDIER #1:
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
ARTHUR:
Not at all. They could be carried.
SOLDIER #1:
What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR:
It could grip it by the husk!
SOLDIER #1:
It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ARTHUR:
Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
SOLDIER #1:
Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
ARTHUR:
Please!
SOLDIER #1:
Am I right?
ARTHUR:
I'm not interested!
SOLDIER #2:
It could be carried by an African swallow!
SOLDIER #1:
Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
ARTHUR:
Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
SOLDIER #1:
But then of course a-- African swallows are non-migratory.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah.
SOLDIER #1:
So, they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
[clop clop clop]
SOLDIER #2:
Wait a minute! Supposing two swallows carried it together?
SOLDIER #1:
No, they'd have to have it on a line.
SOLDIER #2:
Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!
SOLDIER #1:
What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
SOLDIER #2:
Well, why not?
