The Covid vaccines were designed to target the original Covid variant. The Phase 3 testing performed before the Delta and Omicron variants showed up usually had success near 100% in preventing Covid cases. This is not in the least bit surprising.

The Phase 3 testing was performed in an earlier time period while the original variant was prevalent. The testing was performed over a long period of time well before the announcement. It takes months of time to perform the testing, validate the results, and review the data. This should be obvious... even to the most simple minded.
