This is the exact scenario a few of my friends and family went through on facebook.

I kept getting "come see my facebook profile" e-mails from them. I never joined b/c it seemed like the newest fad (facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.)

Nobody I know visits regularly anymore. To quote my 15 year old niece-- "That's so yesterday".

At $5 billion? Numerous websites have a difficult time turning eyeballs into $$$.
 
A Document Searching company (Google) and a Person Searching company (Facebook). The difference between the two is that the former is often used while the latter is seldom used. To shine out as Google, Facebook has to reinvent itself beyond the person searching feature.
 
all they have is ad revenue... which sucks.
what else are they going to do sell user data?
wait they tried doing that with photos already... didn't turn out too well
the vast majority of users on the site would never actually pay for anything

maybe they will end up like myspace with 12 ads on every page

Egocentric crowd behavior. It will die, just like every other thing embraced by that highly volatile age group. There are only so many gimmicks you can add to a web application to retain user interest.

Also what are some of these creative revenue streams? Your target market isn't exactly in the big spender category. What are the average interests of a 18-22 year old? Sex, music, sports, clothing? Short of turning facebook into an online liquor store or adding a pornbook section, I think it's dying a slow monetary death.
 
Does someone has the "kiss" application( don't know the real name in english )on fb? I created my FB account about a month ago to find some chicks from high school( mission accomplished ).

A girl sent me this application, invited me to send the kiss back but I made an error and sent kisses to all my friends...LOL. There were a lot of guys I respect, some I don't really know well,who received kisses from me. This has been a major setback in my fb credibility...LOL...

fb is just for girls sharing photos and people wanting to show how cool they are, people love to do that and perhaps it will stay.

The same thing could have been said about MySpace a few years ago but it's pretty much worthless now. Facebook does a much better job of keeping spam and crap off it's site, but in the end web 2.0 moves very fast and there will be something bigger and better soon enough.

If FB was smart they would look at merging with twitter, but that would depend upon both CEOs putting ego aside and that's not likely to happen.

Facebook does have some value. I know a guy who created a couple of games for Facebook and so now he has a database of about 3million people. He makes around $500,000 per month with it, which is probably more than facebook itself makes..but he's a smart business guy (one of the first 100 microsoft employees)

The aps are very valuable to the owners if you do it right, the list that FB has is very valuable if they work it right, but I wouldnt count on them doing so.

In our own little corner of the world Tim Sykes is a pretty good example of someone who seems to be using facebook and twitter with a lot of success. It seems like the vast majority of his customers come in contact with him for the first time on either twitter or facebook.

Exact same experience, at first was a bit exited to see people I had not seen in 12 years, then remembered why it had been 12 years.
 
FACEBOOK is worth no more than 50 million dollars. Over the last year I have seen nearly everyone I know join in, the hype in my opinion is just about coming to an end, I have no account, but I have close friends who do. Pictures from weddings to party's are all they post, and nearly all of them post what they are doing, Who the Fu$k cares what someone is doing at 4:28pm or 7:49am, quite pathetic if you ask me. Completely over rated....

mark ZUCKERRRRRFOOL is an idiot for not taking the billions people have thrown at him, does he actually think in a few years that site will be as popular as it is now, many have to understand is that as soon as something new comes out people will run and forget whatever facebook was.
