No brainwashing, just free your mind from political bias. This corruption was self evident to anyone caring to pay attention and has been going on long before Trump ever entered the political scene. It is a bit surprising at the breadth and depth of it, but they've been at it for quite some time.

The text book MO of a dictator is to undermine the rule of law and attack political opponents in case you haven't "paid attention" to the last 100 years.
A dictator just locks up or kills his/her opponents. Whatever he/she says is law. There's no attacking opponents in the media.
