Experts: why is gold down and dollar up?

I am starting to think that commodities (gold included) would under perform equities, and that the bear market in stocks (in terms of gold) has ended or on its way to its end (March 09 levels).

because the market is down.market is pricing in gold long ago, not in dollars.
