Experiences/Advice Larger PC Monitors

Quote from Tums:

don't give away your 22"s yet. Daytrading index futures requires many indicators for early signal. As you build up your tool chest, you can end up with 4 screens easily. ;-)>

Indicators are a waste of time. I trade price and watch the tape on the futures and it works. Anything else is of miniscule importance at best. Major Fed announcements, not interested in any other news unless it is a major emergency in which case my stops will take me out anyway. Why would I lower my efficiency / proficiency for things that tell me what has allready happening on the chart? Just logical. But this is something that requires time for people to figure out. You keep your indicators and I'll keep making money at a more basic and logical trading style.

Quote from sim03:

"... just won't cut it" - an exceptionally closed-minded, uninformed view. Such dismissive mindset should serve you very well as you wisely move away from wasting your time to not.

That statement was in reference to the Dell 30" UltraSharp. How is it closeminded when I have researched the product? Also my mindset is fine. But thanks for the input regardless.

I will have to wait until my replacement CPU arrives to give you a valid review, but just looking at the real estate makes my quad Dell 20's appear miniscule...
Up and running, Absolutely wonderful... what a pleasure on the eyes...

Only downside, all aps gravitate towards the big screen and I tend not to use the 20's much, I just ordered a second 30", wifee and son just inherited my 20's, their eyes are both younger... :)

Quote from mokwit:

You need one screen to watch for set ups and another three to keep an eye on all the things that can f*ck you. Seriously.

I love this quote....:D :D

The only "THING" in trading that can fuck you is yourself. You are the master of your universe, drop the excuses and move on or you will wither on the vine.

Correctamundo! Been advising for years... "Logic, Discipline, KISS".

I run a Dell 24" for my equities model, and I will be buying a 30" Dell for my options model. I have hundreds of equities and hundreds of options strikes/month that I track.

For the equities model, up to down space is more important to me, so I rotate the monitor the way it is pictured on the first link (close to top left of page). For the options model, side to side real estate is more important to me (it just happens that is the way I designed the software), so I plan to leave it side length.

I use an ATI X1950XTX dual DVI PCIe card to drive the monitor(s) from one computer.

I like the 22 inch ones the best. It is probably my old eyes but the 22 inch has the best pixel size (dot pitch) compromise that makes them easier to read.

The good thing about the 30 inch is it can display more information than two 22 inch ones.

For comparison here are the pixel size and resolution for the various LCD formats. The 30 inch has the smallest pixel size.

15 inch standard, 1024x768, pixel size .297
17 inch standard, 1280x1024, pixel size .264
17 inch wide, 1440x900, pixel size .255
19 inch standard, 1280x1024, pixel size .290
19 inch wide, 1440x900, pixel size .285
20 inch wide, 1680x1050, pixel size .258
22 inch wide, 1680x1050, pixel size .282
24 inch wide, 1920x1200, pixel size .270
30 inch wide, 2560x1600, pixel size .250
