Expectations of US downgrade from AAA are being put forth to minimize future shocks

Could be.....but I'm not sure they're that smart. They may really think that they are going to pull back in all that loose money and balance the budget again some day (with higher taxes). Stosh
 
Ratings are bullshit anyway. How many AAA ratings were given on toxic debt only a few years back? Only after it explodes do the ratings get affected. That's not how it's supposed to work.

Very true, but the psychological aspect of a downgrade could be catastrophic.
