Excel to Find Correlations?

I am looking for a way to find correlations between lesser known instruments...

Would plugging IB's API into Excel, harvesting the data and performing the necessary calculations do the trick?

Can anyone suggest an easier way or know of a program that already exists?

I am a programming novice - so would rather not go into the excel bit - but will do if it is necessary.

This is a wonderful site. I just wish he allowed more features and criteria inputs for custom screens, say by a volume threshold.

Unless I'm missing something, the majority of returned correlated stocks shown from a query are ETF's, etc.
