Are the people saying she waited too long to come out consistent on this when it comes to MeToo issues? Do the people who not mind that she waited consistent and take delayed MeToo issues seriously when they're accusations against people they support? I'm just asking for consistency, not hypocrisy in political discourse. Is that too much to ask? I'm going to go with a resounding yes.

At her age now (she's 21)...if she's really good...she'll be on the National Team or National Developing Team or getting ready for a pro career in soccer.
Taking on the University without the support of the students, alumnis and other university ADs is a battle that can not be won especially with the NCAA involved.
- I wouldn't be surprise that when she quit...she failed to discuss it with the school or her parents until after she had quit.
Times are tough and many students without scholarship are forced to pay for their own college expenses, work while going to school or drop out because they can not afford college.
Somebody gave her bad advice about quitting without protecting her eligibility / scholarship options. I say that because she doesn't say anywhere about what the UVA offers her in academics that she thinks she can not get from another school.
Thus, it looks like she stayed at the school to get even with the Coach...to teach the coach a lesson. In contrast, the University is like...whatever.
Her message could have been much sweeter via being at another university and kicking her former coach butt in a game while NOT kneeling so that he could see it all.

You should note Kiersten Hening was the top defensive recruit at Virginia Tech in recent years. Prior college, she played at the ECNL level (Elite Clubs National League) at the top club in Virginia (Richmond United). She was also a top defender in the Region 1 (East) U.S. Youth ODP (Olympic Development Program) in Richmond Virginia which is focused on player development.
She took a stance that derailed her soccer career and most likely ruined any chance of post-college soccer. Considering that her parents paid for her club soccer travel across the nation for years at part of ECNL; I very much doubt paying the university tuition is an issue for the family. The suit was launched to drive a point home to the university.
I think soccer on that National Team have many outspoken players about social injustice issues.
That alone may make Hening not a good fit regardless to her talents because she'll most likely be at odds with the players on the National team if she were to make it to that level beyond what the excellence she's already achieved.
In fact, I don't remember the player's name on the U.S. National Team but she too was against "kneeling" but she didn't challenge nor argue with players on her team that is for kneeling to protest racial inequality and police brutality.

Regardless, her coach was in the wrong for belittling her for not kneeling especially if he did such in front of her teammates. I'm assuming such that he was not doing it as a reaction to her trying to force her opinions on other teammates and trying to change their minds...
That would rub the veteran players on the team the wrong way. I've seen such personally...new top athletes on the team trying to tell the veteran players what they should be doing about issues outside of the team...those players had a quick exit off the team via quitting or getting kicked off the team.
She sounds like a great player but the United States has many great players like her that probably do not kneel as you see in the image above involving two particular great players.

We are now seeing similar lawsuits on similar grounds with players being forced off of university teams due to their political views. Seems to be a growing problem.
