Where is the science on this... right now?
There is no evidence masks do anything by themselves.
Distancing matters. You want to avoid droplets being hacked on you in sufficient quantity and load.
Let them fall to the ground.
The data shows... (as of now) masks do not matter unless you are caring for sick people... and then I would choose a shield and gloves and scrub.
1. CDC had to admit last week there is no evidence or airborne transmission.
(no aerosol spread)
2.there is also no evidence of asymptomatic transmission. The recent studies suggest it possible because there is Covid in asymptomatic peoples noses... but they don't even know that it is infectious.
3. CDC explains as far as they know its spread by droplets within 6 feet when people sneeze or hack it onto you... ( I would add maybe scream or sing droplets onto you over time)
As Sweden's Anders Tegnall tells us... masks are dangerous because there is scant evidence they protect and they give high risk people of the illusion of safety.
