Do you know that ART put me on ignore after that first great debate we had months ago. Since, no matter how terribly I insult him he never replies. I miss hurting his feelings. I miss my god idiots are idiots thread which is closed. I'm considering composing a new thread about god idiots. One problem with beginning a new god idiot thread is that I've made friends with you and some of the other believers. There aren't many left to insult. What should I do? Will you contact ART and ask him if he will have an argument with me? Thanks.

you got a long wait

ART has been banned you idiot

Well, I think we have mutual respect for each other. So when I call you things like "asshole" and "dipshit," I hope you can look past those terms and realize I don't mean anything personal by them.

I rather enjoy going head to head with you. So, by all means, please start round 2,421 of "atheists vs. theists" so that we can go at each other's throats.

Thanks!

Sorry Aphex, but if you seriously think that one mans
claim outweighs everything we know about reality, you
truly haven't a clue on how to evaluate reality.

Now who's putting words in another person's mouth? I never said that one man's claims outweigh everything "we" know about reality.

All I'm suggesting is that there may be some merit to the "under-culture" of ghosts, UFOs, etc. Since it isn't fashionable for the "rational" person to believe in these things, I'm willing to bet there are FAR more stories from trustworthy people than we realize.

Most of these stories are withheld from being told due to exactly the kind of reaction people like you give them. This is the same type of reaction scientists get each day when publishing a theory that flies in the face of currently accepted science.

What's the ironic part? Many of these outrageous ideas wind up becoming commonly taught and accepted facts many years later.

Get your head out of your ass.

And what is even more important is that the OVERWHELMING majority of them DON'T become accepted fact because they turn out to be BS. It is through the process of questioning, digging and hammering that we tell the difference between the two.

You attempted to label me as a KNOW IT ALL because
I rejected one mans claim based on the cumulative knowledge
of man kind, specifically scientific knowledge.

This is how I argue these points. I compare the claims
to current scientific knowledge. You rejected that by applying
the know it all label.

So its easy to conclude your implying this.
If you think this is a PROPER way to evaluate claims, then
I deserve an apology :D Because that is exactly what im doing.
I DONT believe one mans claims over rides all scientific knowledge
and I point this out repeatedly. Then you give me crap for it?

All I'm suggesting is that there may be some merit to the "under-culture" of ghosts, UFOs, etc.

Fine, I agree with this. But will continue to shoot down people
who attempt to assert "one mans claim" constitutes worthwhile
evidence. Not even close. You're simply incorrectly assuming
that I am closeminded because I wont accept extraordinary
stories as proof. Sorry...but NO scientist would.
Rejecting stories because of a LACK OF PROOF, is not
remotely the same as being closeminded. Learn to make
the distinction.

No....get YOUR head out your ass for not recognizing that
this is a REQUIRED aspect for the scientific method and that
is EXACTLY what im applying here. There is nothing IRONIC
about it at all, its part of the plan! *sigh*

When people purpose a weird hypothesis, as scientists,
WE ARE SUPPOSED TO CHALLENGE THEM TO THE BEST OF
OUR ABILITIES. If the hypothesis holds up to these challenges,
then, and only then, do we consider moving them into the
realm of theory and then FACT.

REAL scientists are NOT afraid to post crazy claims because
UNLIKE Shoe and market rabbi, they are CONFIDENT
of the PILE OF DATA they have collected to support
their crazy claims. THATS THE BIG DIFFERENCE.
Their evidence is not "oh my daddy told me so", or
"I heard from a friend of a friend". See the difference?????

Of COURSE many of these outrageous ideas wind up
becoming commonly taught and accepted facts.

THAT IS AN EXPECTED PART OF THE process.
axe <--- banging head against wall.

So pull YOUR head out your ass and go learn about
the scientific method. Geezzzuzz.

Dude... you so completely misunderstand me its amazing.

Do you even understand that I whole heartily believe
that some of this paranormal stuff could be real??? Do you???

Precisely!

Our schools are obviously doing a horrendous job of teaching
what science and the scientific method are about. :(

Turok,

You erred in your conclusion of the percentage problem that subliminal posted on the riddles thread, so that disqualifies you for being the spokesperson for math and science. :D

Yes I did err, but you will note that like all good scientist, I stated "Now, I've been wrong before on these sorts of things so I'll be interested in others responses."

http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=479486#post479486

I also showed a willingness to learn and to happily acknowledge when I was wrong:

It is precisely my attitude during the above exchange regarding those probabilities the *qualifies* me to recognize good science.(I've never claimed any special math skills).

Now you are disqualified from doing stand-up because you obviously can't take a joke. :D
