It's a shame it's come to this. But better to be realistic and prepared than incarcerated.

I was was first given this same advice by a 20+ year police detective. He said there are many good cops, but there are also a lot of bad ones. He told me that when you have any kind of interaction with a cop, you have no way knowing whether you're dealing with a good cop or a bad one, so you should assume the worst. As he put it: "The good cops and the bad cops all wear the same uniform. There's no way for the average citizen to tell them apart."

If engineering professors were that interesting and entertaining during lectures I'd consider going back to college.
