FRENCH people were left infuriated by the UK's decision to pull out of a contract with vaccine producer Valneva, claiming it is retaliation for the EU-AstraZeneca row.

The UK Government has terminated an agreement with French pharmaceutical company Valneva for its COVID-19 vaccination, the company said. Some 100 million doses of the vaccine were put on order after the UK increased its request by 40 million in February. The move was lambasted in France with Le Figaro readers claiming Boris Johnson's Government is acting in revenge for the EU's decision to end its contract with AstraZeneca.

One person said: "It smacks of revenge following AstraZeneca's problems..."

And another noted: "With the British, what else to expect?

"Valneva is in breach of its obligations regarding a vaccine that is only under development. All this, not to say frankly: 'we changed our minds'.

"The French state is failing in its obligations concerning migrants, even though we are even going to look for them at sea to bring them back to us.

"Europe refuses to re-renegotiate a post-Brexit agreement, and Boris Johnson's whims are not satisfied.

"Always equal to themselves, the English."

"Another proof of UK deceit," someone else added.

Another reader echoed: "Poor Englishmen. Bitter to the rind.

"The EU has terminated its AstraZeneca contract (for good reason, by the way), so we are doing the same to you.

Not only is it totally childish, but it just reflects the level of dismay in the UK. The boat sinks."

Meaning one imaginary person in the head of the Express journalist writing this to Express style. Very similar to the Daily Mail, like a Punch and Judy for conservative brain show.

Having been in France this week and talking to people from around, they are fairly on top of it as a block relatively speaking far ahead of all others with full doses while trickling down a lot to the rest if the world.

I am more focused on the first two paragraphs that provide the raw facts rather than all the commentary in the article.

I will agree that Express is anti-EU, pro-Brett leaning and all of their selected quotes and commentators tend to reflect this.

Just commenting, they are not quotes at all except from a Harvey the rabbit standing behind the journalist. After years living in the UK one gets familiar with the stereotypical readers of mail and express. Its not much politics, just personality type.

They both target lower middle class, the Mail biases toward women and its unusual in more than 50% of readers are female (and older now). You can't even be confident the bits that seem facts are, literally both will make up fake sources sometimes (DM expecially which is why they were banned as a source by Jimmy Wales for Wikipedia) though I'm sure their clickbait tactics worm their way through.

Their readers are the microwave hotdog eaters of the world, no discernment beyond it tastes good to them for a moment and the regret after is less than the reward...

Circus that is well in front of the US :) there are some advantages to social networks being somewhat broken up by national languages.

You cannot trust the French. Everyone knows this. Of course you can't trust the English either but they are more predictable.

To avoid a harsh Covid winter in Europe the vaccination rate must go up. It is time start requiring mandatory vaccinations to increase the vaccination rate -- is the lesson here.

I'm glad I got into hospice work when I did, solid skill in a growing industry that will never die. Not that science couldn't make us immortal but many will insist it's a health risk.

The panel light from that drip is bugging me a bit though.
