European traders, Roll Call !!!

I have been intra-day trading while on the road for a number of years now.

I am using my 15” laptop, additional monitor (thanks for XP, Bill!) and a number of appropriate cables (some countries have non-standard interfaces).

I always pick the hotels with a large number of telephone lines.

I traded with the modem speeds varying anywhere from 28K to 50K.

In France my ISP is Free.fr – very happy with it – not a single disconnection – good speed
In UK my ISP is BT – not too bad – occasional bad connection – average speed
In Croatia my ISP is HT – peace of sh*t – lucky to connect at 40K

yep.. thats about the size of it.. and a very nice size too.. but it aint easy to get in.. its only 2 klicks long or thereabouts and for you to squeeze in someone else probably pops out the other end.. lol


do a search on monaco tax and you will find plenty on the web about it.. also possibly one of the safest places in the world.. commit a crime there at your peril.. virtually crime free.. the rich and famous get WELL protected!

Ok, very interesting. But then how does this country support itself without any tax revenue. Also why do French citizens have to pay taxes there. Is there some kind of alliance between France and Monaco.

Also why would anyone want to set up shop in the Bahamas or Belize if they can trade tax free in Monaco? It seems the lifestyle would be much nicer in Southern Europe then in the drug infested Carribean islands.

as I understand it they earn state revenue from VAT (purchase tax) and property tax (annual rates on property) and of course the massive inflow of capital into the banks and businesses of the principality.. (corporation tax rather than personal tax)

as for the the unlucky french citizens I think this was due to at some point in the past.. maybe de gaulle was involved but I am not sure.. basically if monaco did not agree france was going to flipping well take it over.. so there.. lol they were going to have all their citizens flocking across that border and avoiding taxes.. oh no..

but really this is just what I remember from reading about it and I make no claim to be expert and will be grateful for any more insight from people who know more.. its a funny place.. the grimaldi royal family there are one of the oldest in europe and its unique as a city I guess... as to why carib instead of monaco. well I suppose property costs a LOT more in monaco.. you do need a minimum of quite a fair bit of cash and a provable income to be resident there.. not a problem for all us successful daytraders of course.. er um..

For those from Europe that might be interested in traveling in the US and Canada, I've noticed that a huge number of US and Canadian hotels now have high-speed access in-room. I was in Missoula, MT and West Yellowstone 2 weeks ago, and both places I stayed had high-speed internet access. I was in Montreal, QC this weekend, and the hotel had high-speed access.

I also know that you can rent a nice condo in Whistler, BC for ~$1000 CAD a week during the season, and the one I am thinking of has high-speed internet access. PM me if you are curious... :)
