EUR/USD start date

I always thought EUR/USD begain trading in 2000. But the other day I happened to pull up a 20 year chart on EUR/USD on TOS and it has data going all the way back to 1993.

Can some older/wiser forex trader clarify when EUR/USD began trading?

Vendors sometimes backfill "euro" data with legacy currency data blended according to the 1999 peg values.
