ETG - anyone have any experience with them

no i'm not joking. I never even went to highschool!!!!! can you beleive that. I did a little bit of home schooling, and travelled alot.

I came home and took the GED at 17 years of age. I was shocked what a low standard the government has for education. Needless to say, I scored high on the test, but i don't think thats a big accomplishment.

anyhow, I just wrote an outstanding coverletter on my weak resume.

my resume goes something like this:

2000-2002 Freelance computer specialist
blah blah blah

1996-2000 Freelancer
blah blah blah

provided no names, references or telephone numbers of previous jobs. my previous jobs would probably discredit me.

like oh yeah man, I worked a home storage company for 5 bucks an hour doing hard labor, and before that I got 4 bucks an hour working on the floor of a warehouse.

i've known for a long time that the only way for a nobody like me to get anywhere in life is to either bull shit my way thru or bull shit my way thru.

both ways seem to work.

I didn't lie about anything. I am just very smooth when it comes to writing or talking.

I got this far while still thousands of miles away from the closest location to either of these firms.

the guy at ETG actually said he was so impressed with the enthusiasm and the "knowing what I want in life" expressed in my cover letter, that he is reserving a spot at his location for when I get there.

by the way, i'm going to need a part time job while i'm working, so if anyone wants a coverletters done, I charge 50 bucks to do them. edit: my cover letter english is alot better than my elite trading posting english :D
 
i work there, and from what you've written, you sound like a piece of shit. you are in the initial stages though, so hopefully you won't get it. it doesn't even sound like you've had anything but the initial phone interview (it used to be a policy to call all applicants), so with any luck, they'll weed you out.

not a nice thing to say i realize, but it's true.

how am I a peice of shit? I was honest in my coverletter/resume. Just cause I know how to write to get the job doesn't mean I'm a bad guy does it? I'm just very enthusiastic, and the recruiter could feel that from my coverletter and our phone call.

A little bit of bs here an there aint that bad (and the only bsing I did was say how much I beleived in ETG's way of doing things), how else is someone like me supposed to get a job? Not only that, but I'm a hard worker and a go getter, so it's a win win situation.

Save your harsh words for people smoochin off your taxes, not for those who smooch to get a job.

Ok first off, unless things have changed in the past year since I interviewed there, there isn't any "recruiter"

There is one older guy by the name of Clem W. <- -forgot the spelling. He was the guy doing the interviews and yeah ok, he looked to be running things, basically he had an office!
I was throughly unimpressed by the greasy and grimey feeling that washed over me from the minute I walked into the place.
Clem, was giving me the quick and dirty, but more importantly sloppy sales pitch about becoming a Prop trader there at ETG.

**Major Hint Clem** : You don't need to Sell a guy on the job when he's there interviewing for it! Right there throws up a red flag, and if your're not color blind hopefully you'll see it.

From the second I sat down in my interview he was shouting out to a young trader guy at one of the benches some trading ideas for the morning. That was only slightly annoying after the 1st time he did it. Then it went on and on. For the entire 10minutes I until I couldn't take it. Surprisingly it was news that was straight off of CNBC. Which by the time its there everyone and their dead dog has already placed a trade in that security. It felt pretentious and further annoyed me. At any rate, once I started getting up and putting on my jacket without saying a word, he quickly changed pace and introduced me to the young trader that he had been barking trades to.

This interview was taking place at 5:00am PST mind you.
There were more empty workstations than traders I can tell you that. Middle of the week, an hour before market opened...made me go hummm. Plus I found out later from other SF traders that one of the main Sr., Traders at ETG in SF had defected and took most of the experienced and good traders with him. Anyways, the trader was very professional and polite and gave me the run down on how things are done there. Showed me a little about their platform and his style of trading. Basically explained that they mostly jump around a lot and place trades where the market action is at... etc...

After that we he accompanied me back down to the first floor, and we chatted outside the building while he took a smoke break.
He basically filled me in as to all the things about ETG. I was very appreciative. However, when I asked him about his background, he explained the following to me. He had been a Bartender and as fate would have it he met this trader from ETG. Apparently one of the Sr. guys. Because this young trader guy was not required to put up any of his own money. He was currently and had been from the beginning trading ETG capital. Don't remember him saying that he had to sign a 2yr. contract, I highly doubt it.

Basically, someone coming on board like myself had to come up with 25k of their own money. Wasn't gonna happen. So, I bid them farewell and never looked back.

Now, I hear your story with them and think...oh man.. now the story is No money necessary....but just sign this little two-year
contract. No big....

Listen Bro... I realize you dont even have a high school education. And trust me thats not a slap in the face. However, just think about it a minute. Nothing is for free, and certainly nothing in trading. Too good to be true. Yeah, it is.
I guarantee you that fine print will say we own your *ucking ass!

p.s. Give Redwood Trading a call. They were by far the best and in my opinion a first class act all the way. Talk to the main guy there his name is Dennis. Either him or Eddie will tell you like it is.

let me ECHO what axehawk said, there is a wealth of info on ETG if you do a search. they were on the broker's rating page but their lawyer threatened this site if they were not removed. having also been "contacted" by their lawyer i would suggest you read the contract very carefully and take it at face value. and btw, you are not a piece of s**t, you just have to ignore some of the posters on this site. good luck with your pursuit!!!
 
Dude, I can't believe what you are saying on this board. You say you have two choices:

1. Become a customer of one (of many, many) firm or

2. Get a paid internship with a firm, that, if hired, would probably pay you 40+ and bonuses.

I say take the internship, if you turn out to be intoshit, you can always trade prop, in fact I;m sure you can probably get a seat at that ETG office, but if not, they're definitely not the only fish in the sea.

brags about how he can bullshit people, like it's some kind of admirable quality...go to used car sales rather than trading.

then he admits he didn't put his references on his resume, which would sink him. why would somebody have bad references? because they are a piece of shit employee.

he either failed out of, or chose not to go to, high shool. high school mind you, not college. that shows a real commitment to bettering oneself.

lastly, there are numerous inconsistencies between his supposed "offer" (WHICH HE DID NOT GET) and what happens during the real process. so, he's 'bullshitting' you. (aka. is dishonest)

he's a piece of shit. have him work for you.
