Yes, i met some guys at VN's who have contracts with several major funds to sell this type of data---- unfortunately, I can't reveal the details, but suffice to say the science is at an advance state, beyond what I imagined.
 
We have several firms that pay to parse a custom RSS feed we offer. I have no idea what they do with it though.
