Esignal outage

Quote from FaderTrader:

What does this post have to do with esignal being out? I'm a daytrader and need the data. Additionally, I've had formulas written for it that won't interface with other charting packages.

You seem to have difficulty following the commentary

Many offices have backup data feeds. My own has two backups.

If you dont' (and many retail traders have no backup) then you are at the mercy of the fates so to speak. This is one of the differences between retail traders and professionals. My own office has a specific plan for almost any emergency (including data feed outages, and power outages) posted on a bulletin board. Since we know this is going to happen, when it does, we simply put the plan into action and move on.

Again, good luck

No doubt - I could use the charts off of Blackwood, but again, I'm not used to it. I have formulas written specifically for esignal that guide my entries, and frankly, if esignal is out, I probably won't trade. In the interest of full disclosure, I took today off so I've yet to be affected, but some of the traders I work with simply stopped trading when esignal cut out.

A month free, or I'm leaving the family :p *disfunctionaly... eSignal family that is*

I don't think that's much of a threat since I'm sure the folks at esignal would love it if you went to a competitor.

I use esignal as my primary feed, but as many others have pointed out, the fact that I had a backup saved me any heart aches. I limited my trading today since I didn't have the robustness of the charting formulas I use, but I was still able to function. I'm running fine now on esignal and figuring out my positions for tomorrow morning with the hopes that esignal is still running fine tomorrow, but I'll still be prepared again tomorrow with my backup if they're still having problems.

I can't really feel comfortable asking for compensation from them for 1 day without data because I'm already spending extra money every month for my backup. Days like today make me see the value in the annual fees I'm spending on the other feed (just in case).

Just like a boy scout.....be prepared.

Cheers

Paul

by the way, it would be nice if someone or perhaps several ET members would keep track of the down days for these vendors on a yearly basis.

I doubt that anyone has this data, but if we kept a record of these outages, it might help potential customers to decide which vendor to to business with. If the vendors knew we were watching and posting this data, it might motivate them to try to improve their product performance.

I would suggest that someone post a spreadsheet type of display that shows downtime by date and perhaps showing total downtime in hours and minutes.

Guess I'm a confessed amateur. I've been using e signal for at least 6 years and don't know about alternatives. Could someone please tell me what CQG is, and how to get in contact? Is it as good as E? What's the difference?

The only reason I tried CQG was to attempt to replicate the market coverage of eSignal with downloadable tick history. If I were not interested in markets like Japan or Euronext I would go with something like IQFeed, Quotetracker, Sierrachart.

HAHAHAHAHA
OMFG

eSignal screwed up big this time.

they INCREASE charges on us, and now my eSignal doesn't work.

OMFG.

eSignal.... the greatest company in the world indeed.

Why are we such idiots to stick with eSignal.

With all these questions of "is eSignal worth it".... well... ..... yeah, here we go again.

eSignal JUST INVITES ME TO GET ON THEM....
What on earth would you need esignal for in the first place? Secondly, your post is abusive as well as immature.

All I hear is e-signal this and e-signal that.

If your not satisfied move to another vendor. I used e-signal in the past and in my opinion it's overpriced. IB + Ensign is the way to go. Top Gun Software is also on my list and if your filthy rich CQG.

Stop complaining and make the change. Simple as that.
