Sure I would appreciate a little help. right now i'm thinking I'll just get CQG. Will that solve the problem?
OK, here's my setup which works for me. Is it the 'best' combination? I doubt it, but when things happen, this is what I've muddled around to.
My main trading stuff is a Dell Inspiron 8600 running Esignal, Ninjatrader running on top of Man Financial. I don't scalp much so the charts on the 1920 x 1200 screen resolution is fine for me.
I have Tradestation as my backup chart vendor as well as my backup broker. I also have IB just in case, plus it's my long term trading account. TS has a deal that with 10 RT's of futures a month, the software is free. So, beginning of every month, I do an intraday trade of 5 YM's or ES's or whatever that satisfies my monthly nut with TS.
This is running on an AT&T Elite DSL package.
The backup to all this is my Dell PC with two 17" flat panels. Software/chart layout/etc is all duplicated from the laptop.
I also have Comcast's cable modem service.
Both the laptop and PC have two NIC's that are connected to each internet service, but with only one NIC enabled. If the DSL dies, I simply disable the NIC connected there and enable the other one, turning on the Comcast. I'm usually back up within 30 seconds. I've tried dual WAN routers before that would do that for me and I never got them to work reliably.
In addition to all this, my laptop is also connected via the phone line with dial up access that I get free with my SBC DSL service.
I also have a piece of paper next to me with my broker's phone numbers as well as account numbers in case everything goes to hell and I need to make a manual call to bail out of a position.
All in all, these things cost me maybe $250 a month for the two charting packages and brokers plus data feeds.
It works for me.
