ES Margins

Another 100 point swing today...
Damn... come November CME will jack the margins.

I wonder how many GlobalFutures $300 intraday margin accounts got liquidated today.

They just increased the margins a week or two ago.

yeah.. that was based sept's swings... 60 - 70 points.
We've broken a 100 a few times now... Nov will prob be $7500.

ES margin raised to $5625 on 10/17/08.

NQ raised to $3750.

EMD raised to $5750.

Day trade margin depends on your broker.

Raising margins is dumb. Back in 2003, the ES was rocking out at the same levels and the margins were next to nothing.

If you're lucky, your broker may stick to the previous guideline of "10% of overnight margin" or "ten times intraday leverage".
