What parameters are used for those who trade breakouts? What does the volume have to look like in order to signal a trade in the direction of the breakout?

Trvl, look at SPX 1254 now and 1257 (is that last year close, can't remember, but it's close) - that num will be psychologically interesting, maybe smash and grab. I have 1252 to 1254 on ES as peaks today.

my stop may flex near those areas.....not sure of the build up since we are low vol Christmas week.
