Back up internet line? Mobile broadband, perhaps?

Highly recommended (Always work, and mobile, and legal on planes too)

I considered this strongly -- however, the problem with my internet connection has been that when it is not working well, it tends to happen every day at some point. Data slows to a crawl and then bursts, and I can't trade effectively like that -- it started at 3pm yesterday for example, but was fine up until then.

Even if I got a backup DSL line for example, I would still have to switch over, and I really don't want to have to go through this every day. My connection will work fine for weeks and then all of a sudden it will be bad for a few days. The solution is that I need to have the current connection fixed and working properly. A tech just came out an hour ago and of course the line was working fine. Go figure...

This looks very cool.... as I said above not a solution for me really, but I love toys like this :)

JD, get a dual WAN router. Does the switch over automatically. Consider extra internet line as insurance. Cost of doing business. Dual WAN router cost $300. Extra internet line residential maybe $50 / month. Your talking 900 first year and 600 / yr following; not to mention piece of mind of not having to worry about this happening again. We have enough to worry about in trading as it is.

I went through this last year and finally caved in a bought dual WAN and extra internet line. Never a problem since.

Thanks mastacoli -- I actually ordered a DSL line as my backup but then my cable service started working great again so I cancelled the backup. I looked into dual WAN routers with the automatic switch-over, but I heard that there may be a problem when I try to immediately connect to my broker's server, as they do not allow simultaneous connections and have a time-out before reconnecting from a different IP -- maybe on the order of 5 minutes or so. Do you know anything about this?

Also, can you recommend a good dual WAN router? I looked a while back but they are actually kind of rare and I didn't know what would be a good one to get.

EDIT: I remember when looking last time that most dual WAN routers are not wi-fi -- I'm wondering if it should be possible to get the dual WAN router, plug my computer directly to it, and then for other computers and devices in the house, I could plug my current wifi router into the dual WAN router, and connect the devices that way. What do you think?

Josh dance - if you fly a lot during trading hours, and use a 3G or 4g data USB for use in the car or on the go, the cost of satellite usage comes down very nicely because you're eliminating your 4g bil ($59+/mo)l, backup cable feed bill ($49+/mo) and inflight wifi bill ($4/flight or $24/mo). I also think there is no data cap for satellite, but check with what've providers.

Has anyone here checked out daytradingradio.com?

Anyways, without blabbing about boring details, I'm going to go out on the line and say we have a bull week this week .
