I was planning to respond to your initial post saying that when "all you see is chop", that is the best signal in history to stay flat, but then you were already in.
Someone else may have gotten a signal in the "chop", but if YOU don`t read the market clearly, you should not trade at that point.
The main objective of trading is to make money and I`ve found that with the ES, there is usually not that many good entries during RTH. If you missed a big move and it`s late in the day, it`s always best to stay flat, learn from it and try again the next day.
Of course that is easier said than done and I`m still struggling with it
