ajcrshr, what do you make of that,is it possible they won't need a qe3

There's been a lot of speculation on why this is happening. ZH claims this will reverse in the next few weeks. The Fed increases its excess reserves account to offset the drop in Treasury's cash balance as they burn through cash. The Fed's reserve balance is used to determine the weekly monetary base.

Although QE2 is over the Fed is still reinvesting principal payments, like a mini QE. I think they will continue this and launch QE3 if we fill those gaps around SPX 1100.

"Under the existing reinvestment policy, principal payments from agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) are reinvested in longer-term Treasury securities. In implementing this policy going forward, the Desk will follow operating practices similar to those established during the $600 billion Treasury purchase program."

Politically: Someone always loses. _Someone always wins. _The public always choses who to blame right or wrong, even if they make the wrong choice on whom to blame. _who or what side they choose To blame if they don't raise the debt level _I have no clue.

Economic and world stability if they don't raise the debt level: everybody loses.

Chance they won't raise the debt level: near zero - but not impossible. _

They have nothing to lose.

The last thing they have in mind is the investing publics interest.

No deal, market tanks, both sides are to blame so who do you vote for after that ?

theres an old unwritten in house rule that a brokers personal account has to hold a position for 10 days to avoid conflict of interest in taking the other side of his advice to the customer,we are at 7 plus the nite session,so it would be in the brokers best interest if this didn't bottom until wed nite, thurs morn
