Where did this "rule" come from in the first place? I dug up some old threads on ET, but did not get much wiser in the end.

I have not used it to trade yet, but I`ve observed in amazement how many times this pattern plays out.

How do you trade this? Do you enter a directional trade after you believe a swing high or low has been made?

I use it to enter/exit with bracket orders using 2 to 3 point stops.

I did technical analysis on both ends and that was my definite conclusion. Not quite sure about the top but extremely confident about the magnet that will take us down to my target area this year.

Since I start slow and never add to losers I can afford lacking precision if I start a little early but once things start to break down I can fortify the position until we get to the desired area.

I say there's a 90 % chance such correction is witness this year and once that materializes itself, the uptrend will resume if the area holds.

Reduced half? Of what? ES hadn't touched 16.00. Ouch, nice call. You bought the top on your paper-trade. Where's your stop, "around 12?" 1311.50 last.
