watch the correlating mrkts, i use targets and watch the transports because they aren't manipulated with programs, toss in the uvol/dvol ratio ,LC watches the tick,JSSPMK watches the macd,Atticus watches the vix,Suso watches the currencies, Vol watches the rule of ten,if you watch any one thing long enough and get familiar with it along with the es,you will get a confirmation

FWIW, I gain no correlation information from the VIX. I trade the occasional convergence trade in the VIX futures (switches/flies) and the occasional hedge.
