Simple looking at my tick chart.. The wider it is the busier.. Today was the narrowest.. see attachement... Globex in gray.. last night's session was VERY thin. ES could be different picture..

Given that though, I'll take any long setups I see tomorrow since low volume means squat recently..

Sorry, didn't realize you are an NQ trader. So am I. So independent of the actual cumulative volume numbers, if you don't see a lot of trades ("narrow" tick chart), you think of it as low volume? I suggest that for today only you would have to account for activity in both rollover contracts to make that decision.

when it reaches crossover, some people will say it is too high, better be cautious. I will do it pro-actively, then use the crossing as conformation, or move the stop to the cross under. b.t.w., your 20MA is a little bit too short, I use 39MA. just bought some sept. NQ at 1819, stop at 1810.

Quote from Arthur Deco:

Using $SPX as a surrogate for ES to avoid continuous contract issues, it appears that the efficacy of the 20sma is a relatively recent phenomenon. One could even argue that crossovers are more important.

A backtest would resolve the question.

Thanks for sharing your views. The 20sma is Ms. NoDoji's, not mine. I use a 50ema. My point was perhaps too subtle. One does not have to "feel" or "think" or "observe" that such-and-such a thing is true. One tests it to find out for sure.

Good points... I remember the dot-com days.. you could tell just by the speed of the time and sales the truthfullness of the price direction.. AMZN and BCST used to bring my PC to a crawl... especially when those splits were announced.

Those are not good sales numbers.

Yes, I remember those days well. And recall the experiences of certainty you had. Nowadays I have a visualization of T&S so I won't go blind and get vertigo from watching the actual transaction stream.
