"tax hit" is relative to the individual trader. I doubt that a group move will effect markets in this regard. AT least to any extent.

It really depends on the investor / trader and their individual situation.

I guess the bigger question in my mind is how many really bought all the way up from Mar 09 lows. Look at the volume. I think (opinion / minimal fact) there are not as many double and triple baggers in the hands of retail as what may be thought?
 
401ks got hit hard and now getting 60-75% of that back,edit ..going off of family members conversation, not an across the board #

It's incredible how LC reads these markets, normal or thinned-out.
