Nope. Use of leverage (or not) only affects ACCOUNT RISK. It has no affect whatsoever on MARKET RISK. If you go running naked through the Brazillian rainforest, the (number of) freckles on your arm does not augment, nor does it diminish, the possibility of getting hurt.

What you are really referring to is position sizing also known as money management. The question of using an overnight stop or not isn't one of "can I", it is one of "should I". Regardless of the answer, MARKET RISK remains unchanged.

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. Jurrasic Park (1993)

Oso, I agree with you. However, I never said leverage affected market risk, so I'm not sure where I gave that impression.

I was simply explaining (without knowing OTs account size) why he might pull stops in low volatility periods. Someone with only 10k in capital couldnt pull a stop even if they had 1 contract on ES/Dow etc. (maybe if they traded 100 shares of SPY)

I don't have that type of size in my previous post, but I've been trading without leverage before I came to ET.

One of the reasons I joined ET is to work on my stop placement so that I can trade bigger size and use levarge (my goal is 10 contracts). So far I've been unsuccessful and am actually more profitable when not using stops.

fair enough ... we may never agree.

I believe that the charts have quite a different impact on the player when he/she is actually trading a real account with a monetary outcome than just reviewing or replaying or siming.

It is the reason why when reading this thread I skim over the trades posts and just stay with the comments posts.

I feel that there should be a clear segregation between real money accounts on the forum from the Walter Mittys et al. as , as stands, it would appears to undermine the benefits this forum can offer.

I am contemplating offering myself to the slaughter by either creating a new thread or "hooking" onto an existing thread...

From what I have read on this particular thread you, collectively, have a good grip on what is going on and ,therefore, I would like your advice to the following:

I will be trading a quote, "real account with a monetary outcome",unquote

The initial purpose is for therapeutic reasons alone...my view being that most traders are introverts that need a release and this forum is one method to accomplish the release. I will need a release.

Second, I have not traded for the last 12 years and I am now in a position to get my act together after an extended illness and approx. $300,000 lighter.Prior to my illness , I was quite successful to the extent that I ultimately was managing money for a CPO...and that is another story for another day...

Third , hopefully through my performance, I may be able to offer crumbs of advice to others , if sought.

My goal is simple; not to lose anymore than $6000 ( $12000 + account) and be profitable without any specific goals on profits as that cannot be controlled.

Therefore, I would like to know from you guys , as you seem to be a smart bunch, should I set up a separate thread or what thread should I hook onto?

To authenticate my trading activity over time how should I demonstrate it? I look forward to you suggestions.

now is now

Are not the same person who was offering mentoring on another thread with a different handle?
