In the past i also looked at the "FADE the FIRST MOVE" myself.
Actually it was part of the learning process that led to my use of DEAD ZONES. Many early moves (not RUNS) hardly ever present a decent possibility as worth the effort to attempt a FADE.
The mkt opens and gets a couple handles up and a couple handles down. What i want is the 'RUN" that is going to make me a FEW handles, a fiver, a tener, etc. You get the idea.
To fade the initial run is not my goal nor should it be anyone elses. Remember i have a 3 handle (12 ticks) DEAD ZONE to help eliminate some of the opening noise. Breakout trading means you are out in the field looking for gold nuggets and not willng to settle for gold dust.
How many remember the days when we were all glassy eyed with futures trading and all the easy money to be made? How many got up in the morning after you opened the first account and fired up the computer, turned on CNBC, fired up the charts, etc, etc and waited impatiently for the pits to open?
How many will admit that after the pits opened you really were fucking clueless what you were doing?
My point being this: We go through a lot of ideas, we try many ways to find out individual way. leraning to "TRADE" is a slow and mean process of finding out not what works but what does NOT work. What other profession has such a vicious learning curve?
So, i looked at the fade the opening move, i discarded it, but it was a valuable tool to use toward refining the ORB stuff i use today. Some mornings i might adjust relative to the price action on the opening and globex preopen (maybe a hour or so) has more value lately than before but thats part of adjusting to mkt conditions.
The main deal though is we all most come to the following point before consistency is the norm. When you get out of bed these days you know full well what you are doing so whatever the mkt throws at you there is no fear, ne sweat, no hesitation. You are who you are and you are gonna make some money today just like you did yesterday and same or tomorrow. You are no longer clueless like in the beginning, you are a trading machine. You have courage to pull the trigger without hesitation because you know the first instinct is 99% the best one you gonna get for this trade you are watching.
