How are they are higher if the trader is going for home run trades ?

Position/overnight traders have a much higher winning percentage than intraday traders who are gettiing stopped out for small stops . It is necessarily so. :)

Any evidence for this assertion?

No. Other than personal observations of other traders doing intraday trading throughout my career and a healthy dose of common sense. A position trader using stops based upon larger timeframes typically has more powerful stop placement than someone getting stopped out often intraday. :)

watching this nq area for a possible DT and a move to new lows... no entry as of yet for a daytrade. Would love to get a chance to short at 1900

One could make the same argument for the daytrader if he used 100 point stops as well. nothing wrong with position trading but your r to r is terrible. The only benefit to your strategy is saving commission at the expense of many trading opportunites missed. Also this strategy is not right for someone who does not large capital because they will never grow it taking so few trades with so large of risk .
