Too many damn holidays these days. When I was growing up, there were less than 5 nationally observed holidays: New Years, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. But, with the exception of Thanksgiving day, all others came up during school vacation. So you went to school pretty much every friggin' day. (They had Columbus day, Memorial day, and Labor day but you still went to school IIRC).

Anyway, why do we even "commemorate" these holidays when all we do is have outdoor barbecues and go shopping?
