Why would the market go limit down? When did that happen the last time? Did it happen during the financial crisis?
According to my data, we had 3 days with a close less than 7% with maximum down roughly the same since 2005. The biggest at around 9 %. All 3 during the financial crisis.
This is calculated using NYSE closing hours (cash close). Maybe limit down uses other close/open times.

Market was limit down on election night 2016, June 2016 around Brexit and Aug 2015 on a Sunday night/Monday morning.
Seems stops are being ran outside of RTH vs RTH. Don’t understand that.
Steering clear of BTFD at the moment. Not liking what I am seeing.

Do I understand correctly that trading is not halted, but there's simply a up/down limit for the prices?
It seems like for trading to be halted, there has to be a halt in the cash SP500 index:

My favorite one was MLK 2008 when SocGen blew up
ES has been limit down during AH. Never has been during RTH that I am aware of unless maybe on 9/11/01 but I wasn't trading futures then so don't recall.
Also every limit down on ES has paid very well for buying when it was at least since 2006.
