i can't remember an exp with this many open interest calls this late in the week, although they may have been straddles at a previous point, they seem to be spread off...where's atticus. any reasons?

Huge combos at single strikes (arbs); boxes at the incremental strikes or perhaps SPY/SPX arbitrage. No way to know, but I wouldn't place any predictability there.

the money train ..financial dynamics dictate a rising sp500.... cheap money chasing return... inflation of all asset classes.

the only instability is uncontrolled order flow..

thnx atticus, spec ,no disrespect but that is a general statement,i think the only ones holding it up here are bernanke and company, which is also a general statement

if you look at the sp500 and how it trades, its generally been gap up..consolidate..intraday gap down, backup ,..consolidate.. the only gaps that maintain their gap are,.. the gap ups..

..downward orderflow is only transient.

If you remember Apex you will see he learned that a long time ago.

..a favorable financial climate in terms of low interest rates (dont fight the fed).. keep this dynamic alive.

the largest MM's... if you have the largest pockets, and the largest pockets need to preserve upward bias, how would you do it.. even if you have deep pockets, the orderflow needed to move the market can move the market but that money needs to convert itself to cash eventually to maintain buying power.

by converting to cash, you get the consolidation zones..low liquidity moments or time zones are used to move the market and trigger stops. Price gaps down in asian session or price gaps up..

eventually the largest players interest is trigger the stops of the weaker players. If the weakest player is long ..gap down... if the weakest player is short .. gap up..trigger his stop.. but eventually bring price back up... to maintain upward bias.

just for grins because this pattern never shows up, i can't find the nikkie,it did a 4 step and blew thru the bottom of the 1st step in 88-90 era,the 87 spx crash made 3 steps and dropped to the bottom of the first, we have made a 4 step pattern, not saying the 4th step is complete
