Often it can be pointless to seek an explanation for why stocks are going up or down. It can go up or down on good news and up or down on bad news, esp. with the relationships overturned in the bizarro world of central bank expectations. The financial coverage explaining the moves only do so with benefit of hindsight.
Very dangerous to think Bankrupt European Country debt at xx%, therefore spx should trade down xx, or vix should be up xx%.
