One of the PC magazines did their "Best Manufacturer of 2005" reader's poll and showed Samsung and Viewsonic tied for 1st place in LCDs... Dell was 3rd.
I think that most if not all Dells are using Samsung panels, so that could be what you are referring to. There are far more monitor companies than panel producers, so many monitors are based on similar or identical panels.
For example, Acer and Viewsonic had recently launched a 19" widescreen monitor, and I'm now starting to see the same panel crop up in monitors from many, many other manufacturers.
