$113 million in waste just in one year in one state in food stamps. Extrapolate that to 50 states and to all 'entitlement' programs and think about how much taxpayer $$$$$$ is being pissed away.

I wasn't targeting you ... yours was the last reply and I wanted to point out that government, unlike a for profit private sector company, wouldn't scrutinize applications as closely. And then there was the story of the high spending couple who milked the system that I wanted to post. The fraud is very widespread ... just as in Medicare & Medicaid a lot of doctors get involved and steal like there's no tomorrow.

Can this be explained (away) by the presence of large numbers of "those" people, i.e. democrats of a certain "type", in republican states, who are basically unrepresented because of gerrymandering?

As has been pointed out like a hundred times here, this is total fed spending by state, not welfare spending. You understand the govt has certain obligations (like defense) that it has to spend on.

If rep voters are the real WELFARE takers, then how did dems (the party which passed every single federal social program into law) get elected? Who is for the federal 'safety net', who supports obamacare, who passed SS and medicare.. all done by dems with the obvious support of their voters.

this data can also be skewed by the fact that the boomers are more conservative and are now mostly on medicare and SS because they were forced to pay in and have no alternative to medicare. It really isn't complicated, dems (authoritarian scum) support and pride themselves on these shitty programs. actual conservatives oppose them. regardless of who benefits from them, my vote will always be for reform or outright termination of these programs.
