The cotton gin? I thought that INCREASED the demand for slaves.
 
While slave revolts are a romantic idea (for the slave) they are not always realistic, especially if one is born into slavery. They usually result in the deaths of large of amounts of the unarmed slaves and very pissed off slave owners, who are out large amounts of labor and pussy that they paid for.

However, my question was regarding the laziness of slaves. It seems to me that if they are being lazy, its because their master is not swinging that whip appropriately. It would seem unusual for a slave to determine rather he will work or not.

The cotton gin and the cotton harvester are two different machines. The latter apparently did not come into widespread service for decades after the US Civil War. So the mechanization premise is invalid.

You are asking a very good question.
I always had difficulties motivating my employees till the day I started offering top salaries (:D). Would you believe my employees' attitude to work changed?
 
How come slaves accepted to work for so little money? What was the secret, so that we can learn to do the same in modern times.

It is just soooo hard to get good workers at a low price. Even when outsourcing jobs to thrid world countries,
we still have to fork for the workers :confused:
