End NASA, silly Mars stuff and all US space programs = Solves US Economy problems

Quote from florida_pilot:

Exactly - a month in Iraq should cover this in its entirety.

That's an idea stand down the US military for one year and all our oil problems are solved. Seeing as the the US military is the largest US consumer of oil. The US Military Iraq fuel bill is $150M/month. Funny US tax payer paying for fuel bill in Iraq when they are exporting oil.

US military needs to get high MPG vehicles. geez didn't they learn anything in Mogadishu e.g. Toyoto Hilux/Tacoma with machine gun on the back gets 30MPG!!! Hell the WWII Jeep does better than the Humvee!!

the cause in Iraq has literally saved thousands and thousands (perhaps millions more) lives...and Nasa, Mars deal...hmmm...lets count....none, helped for nothing!except gave people jobs...lets really, really think...

Where does this BS come from? Our invasion against Iraq and cost over 100,000 Iraqi deaths and 4,000+ American deaths. Saddam was tried for the deaths of 140 people. Most of them, rightly or not, were sentenced to death in court. Bush oversaw the execution of 135 (or so) people during his terms as govenor: his hands (and ours) are covered with the deaths of many more.

In response to the original OP, cutting NASA is about the stupidest budget-cutting idea that a person could come up with. Space and ocean exploration budgets should be INCREASED not decreased.

Hopefully, the Mars missions will find proof of life ... end all the religious hogwash which in the US is taken to extremes ... and that will solve the financial problems in the US for the longer term. It will also avoid the US of going to war based on religious prejudice - which is a huge risk nowadays.

Quote from RisingTide:

This will really pay dividends in 5000 to 10000 years from now when we've f-up our planet to the point that humans have to migrate to another planet. By that time, the planet will somehow find a way to cleanse itself from the toxic residue caused by human..."

Mankind doesn't have enough time on this planet to solve the problem of "relocation".... unless ET's are generous and give us the technology. But why would they? Who/what in its right mind would want to see our bigoted, religiously fanatical, war-crazy and violent beings expand across the galaxy or elsewhere?

The planet will cleanse itself of the vermin... US!

WASHINGTON - The White House has eliminated funding for a mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope from its 2006 budget request and directed NASA to focus solely on deorbiting the popular spacecraft at the end of its life, according to government and industry sources.

The next generation telescope will be the James Webb telescope set for launch in 2013. It will reside in an orbit 1 milion miles from earth. It will be an international collaboration including NASA.

You could see a three-headed alien talk to the president tonight on live TV and it wouldn't change a thing for a zealot.

Hard to imagine there are still individuals who believe this nonsense.

You have a right to your opinion, but please keep it to yourself. No need to spread more idiocy.
