eminis vs. S & P

I'm just watching eminis for the first time today, and am puzzled by something. Side by side with the S & P 500, the e's seem to lead the index they're based on, sometimes up to a point or a point or a quarter. I would have have thought the index would lead the way... or is this just an anomaly, and sometimes it works the other way around.

The futures usually lead the cash. But not always.

With leverage and arbitrage the futures have strange powers.

the eminis lead the s&ps because they are electronic. Every tick you see on the spoos has to be typed in by a (presumably amphetamine taking

) floor clerk. Hence on your data feed the illusion you get is the leadership factor.

E minis don't lead. But the mini prices are reported instantly, while there is a 1-2 second delay for the SPOO's while their prices are entered. This gives the appearance that they lead, but they don't. It's good to be aware of this one. Dont be fooled by this one.

Baloney! The Emini S&P lead the pit and has taken over the role of price discovery. Just look at a one minute chart and you can see who leads who. The pit traders watch the Emini for direction.

Try to think about this for a minute. How could pit traders watch the mini price in the pit??? Have you ever seen the S&P Pit? Do you think that they all huddle around 1 or 2 monitors watching prices of the mini? Get real.

They don't need to huddle around one or two screens, they are freakin massive.
