Elon Musk speaks

Free speech is a multi edge sword. It gives radical ideas an avenue for discourse. We have been used to left leaning radical ideas since the 60s and the general centrist leaning consensus is inclusion. But Trump and co have pulled the sheet off the radical right ideas and somehow made them almost mainstream and today's great American schism revolves around what free speech is.
However much I dislike right wing discourse on most social issues, I think it's important not to stifle those voices, precisely because extreme ideas usually propagate in the dark. The public square ought to dare all to speak up.
I think Musk believes this and wants Twitter to be the public square, without subjective minders to control the square. However, he (and I) believe anyone who speaks must take responsibility for their words and he aligns with European rules on free speech: anyone who speaks must be identifiable, and anyone who slenders must be ready to face justice. With great rights come great responsibilities.
Musk also wants to rid Twitter of the propaganda machines that overwhelm the square, from 2 bit peddlers to powerful dark money. The square should be an avenue for discourse, not an MMA hexagon.
So yes, I think Musk is driven by a fundamental common good goal. He also believes that if he can make money from it, even better.

No social media board has succeeded in this. Four-chan, Trump's thing, etc. All that claim to be 100% free speech have to start censoring otherwise things go Lord of the Flies real fast.

Look at how much moderation Baron has to do to keep bots from advertising. Technically he's stifling free speech in a public square.

I DON'T THINK anyone you listed above is corrupt except for Trump, hillary, and pelosi.

But I DON'T BELEIVE Elon actually cares about free speech. I THINK Elon cares about his free speech and he cares about having all the attention on himself.

See this is the problem. You don't actually know, you just think.

I tend to agree with you and it's the reason why I'd rather Musk steps away from that hornets nest.
On the other hand, I would still like to see what the public square could become under proper supervision. I refuse to believe that this is the best we can do. Americans obsess over free speech, but no one is telling them that with free speech comes accountability. Europe has strict rules and this may be a point to address politically here, but hiding behind free speech to vomit nonsense cannot be sustainable. Getting rid of spam/fake accounts will be hard, but a symbolic fee to join would dramatically reduce their number. Requiring a real name and real address would shut a lot of the more extreme voices as well.

There is no accountability in anonymous forums.
That’s why all free speech experiments fail.

musk must know this. He’s one of the greatest visionaries of our generation.

1. Free speech includes hate speech.
2. Platform providers for hate speech can be held liable.

Therefore:

3. No such a thing as free speech on a for profit platform.

I remember even Plato didn't let his students to carve just about everything on his cave walls.

Oh I know, not just from facts but from results and effects as well.

Where do you get your "Thinking" from? The news?

I'm sure you "know" a lot of things that you think are true.

i know what i know and i know what don't. You don't know what Elon's intentions are and it's sad that you don't know that.
