Really you weren't allowed to punch, kick or elbow in UFC 1? I think the only thing not allowed was eye gouging. There weren't even any weight classes lol. BJJ proved the most effective fighting style when compared to any other fighting style. Now it's all mixed martial arts obviously. If you don't have any grappling experience a 3 strike white belt will rag doll you in the streets.

These guys came in with zero BJJ experience while the BJJ had been doing stand-up for a long time. Nowadays all the info is out in the open so a few months of BJJ experience will nullify an expert if it is with punches elbows knees kicks.
