I have to agree. I would like to be able to read through these posts without being subjected to the profanity. The profanity is almost always contained in a worthless post anyway. I once read that profanity is a feeble mind trying to express itself, and I tend to agree. I don't see how a person that can't control his tongue can control his emotions well enough to trade. I am sure there are good traders who make no attempt to control their language, but I think they might learn something by learning to express themselves without resorting to profanity. Anyway, I am of the opinion that profanity should be edited.

Ive always felt that it was absurd to get excited about a word. Years ago saying shit would have got your ass whipped. The best thing that can happen is that all the four letter words are repeated so often that they become boring. Actually I think they are at that point now.

that is just silly.to test your theory lets say you had a young daughter.would you think its alright that she go around repeating four letter words until they become boring? i think not.
low class and crude behavior may have become more acceptable but that doesn't mean its the right thing to do.
 
David1, Eldredge, and vhehn, I support your posts on this thread.

I listen to sportstalk radio in my car. It is an ESPN affiliate. The broadcaster in the late afternoon is pretty good with sports knowledge, and I would enjoy having my young son listen also. I believe in the positive benefits of teamwork and discipline.

Sometimes however, the broadcaster feels free enough to use vulgarities such as "damn, hell, piss." It makes me cringe to listen to it, and I don't want my son thinking it is okay to use such language. It is not okay. Vulgarity is not okay. We all know it. It does nothing to enhance the value of his show, nor does it enhance the value of any post on Elite Trader.

My 2 cents...

I agree with most of the posts about using some taste with the profanity issue but another thing is concerning me. I agree heartily with Eldredge that nearly all of the posts that contain a lot of profanity are otherwise void of any value. Which leads me to my deeper concern which is why so many of the good posts start with " I swore I would never post here." or something to the effect that they feel like fools to post and be ridiculed by the "wise" other posters who tend to be critical of nearly everything and everyone. If people are afraid to post for fear of the ridiculers then how much good information is being withheld that could possibly benefit someone. It is almost as if the naysayers want to blast the good posts off the board to keep others from benefiting from them, which makes one wonder about ulterior motives.

I doubt that youngsters these days take these words seriously and that in my mind is progress. When you make something taboo, that is the surest way to ensure its longevity. Fuck and intercourse mean the same thing. Why is one ok and the other not? Its illogical.

p.s. the word comes from the Dutch. fokken, to breed. Big fokken deal. We are the ones who make a mountain out of a molehill.

i tend to agree with you easy. this is a place for traders. that's how traders have always behaved since the beginning of time. if you don't like the ocassional crudeness, just filter it out. there's still good info here.
