That would fall into poor metrics being used. They were junk in 2016 and even worse in 2020. Scrap the entire system and rebuild it, the one we have no longer works.
Why should the polling industry not be susceptible to the same corruption that plagues every other facet of our elections?
Most of this "polling error" scenario is just basic voter suppression by the left. It is/was part of coordinated effort to show Trump as a loser when he has substantial support from the American people. This is true even if he loses. He has lots and lots of supports. Not to forget that these polling clowns do not show up and do their work just on election day. They - including the leftards here on the forum- stick four or five polls up your arse every day. Most of them bias bullshit. Seniors hate Trump now, so here is the poll. Hispanics in Florida hate Trump now due to his handling of the hurricane in puerot rico, here's the poll. Covid devastated Florida, so Floridians have turned against Trump, here's the poll. Yaddy di- yaddy dah.
I have not caught with where we are today but last I knew Trump was slapping around Fox and others around for an early call on AZ. And the pollsters were doing some kind of "I am up on Mount Olympus with my insided baseball model" routine. Actually there model sounded valid to me and AZ will probably flip, but jeeeeesuzzzz, after what Trump has had to put up with he and his team are well, well justified in pushing on polling numbers. And it is their job to say something smart back. FOR A CHANGE.
Yuse guys are being wayyy too easy on these clowns by chocking it up to polling "error." I am not saying they all get in a room and conspire although there is some of that going on. I am a saying it is a culture of interpreting data and designing studies in a way that hurts anyone who is not a leftie.
Let me give you a clear example from yesterday. One of the long time, highly useful polling techniques is the "right track-wrong track" polling which asks voters if they think the country is on the right track, right direction at this time. Trump of course does shiite in that poll. Now all the pundits are scratching their head and wondering how he is getting so many votes nevertheless. IT IS BECAUSE THE LEFTY IDIOT POLLING PEOPLE AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME THAT IF PEOPLE THINK THAT THE COUNTRY IS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION IT MUST BE TRUMP''S FAULT OR THAT THEY BLAME HIM. I am exhibit A. I totally think the country is going in the wrong direction and I want Trump to continue to stop them. You gotta be on another planet to think that if someone thinks the country is going to hell they are automatically against Trump. And as it turns out, most of the polls are on another planet.

Could be? Unfortunately this thing is playing out like I hoped it would not, so close either side leaves feeling the election was tainted. If Trump wins narrowly, the left claims voter suppression, if Biden wins, the right claims voter fraud. Ending like we are leaves the losing side emboldened and disenfranchised.
This country needed a victory by either side that left little doubt.
The undisputed facts are this country is deeply divided right down the middle and modern day polling is a waist of time.
At this point a divided congress is probably best as neither side can run rampant. Hopefully they will see the division in this country and try to work together, for a change, and get us through this time.
Neither side can claim a mandate.
