Ya know back in the day, when the Gypsies, Italians, Irish all came over via Ellis Island... if you had ever been in prison, you weren't allowed in. You weren't even allowed on the boat leaving Europe. That's a fact. A lot snuck in through Canada because of that.

That’s nonsense. One of my great-grandfathers came to America as a merchant marine and decided to just stay. No Ellis Island, visa, nothing. Then he served in WWII, went to Italy, where he was from, and found his brother - who later came to America with no papers, visa, or anything.
And back in those days there was virtually no border security with Mexico or Canada.
