Biden Falsely Claims to Have Convinced Strom Thurmond to Vote for the Civil Rights Act
President Joe Biden made a false claim on Monday when he said that he “literally” convinced former Dixiecrat Sen. Strom Thurmond (SC) to vote for the Civil Rights Act.
The president made his outlandish claim while speaking on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the civil rights legal group, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
“Pause for just a moment. I thought things had changed. I was able to literally, not figuratively, talk Strom Thurmond into voting for the Civil Rights Act before he died, and I thought, ‘Well maybe there’s real progress,’ But hate never dies. It just hides, it hides under the rocks,” he said.
Strom Thurmond, who switched to the Republican Party after years as a Democrat, voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 before Joe Biden had entered politics, being that he was just 21 years old at the time. Strom Thurmond also died in 2003, many decades after the passing of civil rights.
Thurmond not only voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, he also holds the record for the longest-ever filibuster opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Hi Tree,
Hey speaking of SC... (i was gonna mention this anyway)... but a friend of mine who really follows this stuff and I think his track record predicting these things, certainly in the last few elections, is pretty good.... he's a real politics-buff... he's saying the ticket will be DeSantis and Tim Scott. Brace yourself... he says DeSantis will beat Trump. Bold call there.
I say only that the race in the general election will be Rumsfeldian wherein the predicted/base case of Trump v. Biden. will not occur. Whether the surprises are on both sides of just one, I know not. I have said also that Trump's lead will fall at least 20 points from its high which will bring him into a closer race rather than the projected cakewalk.
DeSantis has turned out to be a remarkably poor candidate- but Trump has his issues, let's just say. Just amazing how emotionally flat DeSantis is.
In regard to Tim Scott, I have always liked Tim because he is not obnoxious and does not downgrade the room wherever he is. Nevertheless he conducts himself as though he is interviewing to be the lead pastor for some large church. He comports as being fairly undeveloped in some of the more crunchy issues. I would expect him to do well with Iowans though because they value not being obnoxious and evangelical connections.
In regard to being DeSantis's VP, DeSantis is sort of an aloof, utility grade politician. He will look at Tim Scott but if Nikki Haley is polling higher than Tim then "she is the Man."
The Dem train wreck begins next week or sooner. The dems hater trump so their media and they are focused on his woes 24/7. But they also use trump to be in denial over Biden and Harris. That works for a while, for a long long while but not forever. Forever is going to end very soon for them and reality can be very unpretty.
Glen Younkin is a wild card to watch. He will say he is not even considering it but he has large, large donors sticking money up his arse every day. Not sayin he will do it. Just saying that there background games going on there that DeSantis needs to watch. Some pundits say that Youngkin wants to wait until after the Nov elections- of this year- wherein he hopes to bring even more Republcans into the Virginia state legislature and then use that as another feather in his cap- if it goes that way. It would be a continuation of his "look what I did in Virginia against democrats and I can do that nationally" tour.
Interesting. Of course DeSantis is already playing that card--- "Look what I did to the Dems in Fl... my landslide, blah blah blah."
I wonder who Trump would pick for a running-mate? Have you opined on that yet?
