Some pre-September election foreplay going on here.
The "declare victory and pass the torch" movement is not scheduled- per the kabuki dance script- to pick up speed until after labor day.
But some warm-up acts are in progress.
Newsom is obviously circling around overhead like a vulture ready to pick the meat off of Biden's carcass but he does not want to get involved in the dirty business of "Joe's Gotta Go." He is planning on dining off of any wounded animals though.
Just as an aside, the dems and dem media have built this faux narrative expectation that Newsom is somehow some kind high profile successor waiting in the wings, but I still don't see any real support for him east of Sacramento. We went through this with Kamala didn't we? She became a household name - thanks to the lefty media- and people started naming her as a choice because she was the only one they could think of, but that did not translate into any real support.

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is calling on President Joe Biden to "pass the torch" to another Democratic leader for the 2024 presidential race, saying he represents the majority of the United States that want to move the party forward.
Phillips said in an interview Sunday with Chuck Todd on NBC News's Meet the Press that donors and constituents want to "move on." Phillips has been floated as a possible challenger to Biden in 2024, though he has not pledged to join the race.
"It's not about what's real all the time, it's about how people feel. People want to turn the page," Phillips said. "As a Democrat, I adore Joe Biden, he saved this country. He can cement his legacy ... the call to action is to ask the president to pass the torch."
Phillips's comments come as Biden receives historically low approval ratings for his presidency. He also has narrow leads in some key battleground states and slightly falls behind in others, which could cost him reelection in 2024. An Emerson College poll from Aug. 4 showed Biden and Trump deadlocked at 44% in Michigan.
The Minnesota congressman said there is an "extraordinary bench" of Democrats that could be viable options for the party to take the national stage. He said he would like to see a "moderate governor from the Heartland," naming people like Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL).
Phillips clarified that he does not think Biden is incapable of running for a second term, but people need to "look at the data."

It is very noticeable how much this Biden Crime scenario is beginning to take its toll over in Camp Dem. For the last 2-3 weeks they tried to contain it with the "not a shred of evidence connecting Joe Biden" routine and that worked okay for a while.
Now they are beginning to sweat. And of course lefties like Chuck Todd are sweating but not as much as they would be if they were not in denial. For example, he is worrying about "Hunter Biden exhaustion." Heh, try again. It is the Joe Biden exhaustion based on Joe Biden's action that you really need to worry about, but if you need to get there in baby steps as reality set in, that's fine. And talks about "exhaustion" with independent voters. Try again. There is plenty of exhaustion with dem voters too, Dumphuk. That is why you are worried about an "opening for a serious Democrat," Duh.
Also start worrying about Manchine entering, while worrying about both Trump and Glen Youngkin polling ahead of Biden.

Todd predicts that while twice-impeached thrice-indicted former President Donald Trump "is gonna be completely distracted by his courtroom issues and his legal dramas," Biden will likewise be preoccupied with his child's troubles, which Todd says "are going to become problems for voters. I think when you sit here with swing voters, there's an exhaustion. There's no doubt that I think Trump has a lot more exhaustion than that."

Interestingly, the Iowa evangelicals seem to have been unexpectedly gracious. I figured that by this point they would be highlighting the fact that Vivek is a Hindu but I have not heard a peep about that.

As I said back at the Alvin Bragg situation, "Trump's numbers are subject to a 20 point mean reversion at some point." I stand by that. That does not mean that he will not still be in the lead but the froth is going to come off those numbers at some point. Then when you are only ten or fifteen ahead it starts to matter whether others are entering or dropping out of consolidating five or ten points here and there. Then you have an election contest in process.
