Rice was 100% foreign affairs in her background. No domestic affairs experience or interest whatsoever. Then, voila, you wake up one morning and she has been made. Obama's chief domestic policy advisor. WUT?
It's because Susan Rice was Obama's and Valerie Jarrett's primary choice last time and this time too. And they figured Joe was a one-termer so they positioned her to get some domestic policy experience to fill in her resume while they hung on for Joe to leave.
Except now Joe is not leaving. So Susan leaves the next day after he announces because basically she knows she is no longer going to be running this time. Joe is tying up that spot.
So, there is nothing in it anymore for her to hang around there in some grunt position.
My take anyway. She played the long game and it did not work out. In fairness to her, no one in their right frigging mind would think that Biden can make it through this term, let alone run for another one so she had some basis for thinking that the top spot might be opening up. She has never been elected to anything in her life though so her instincts are probably not that good. She did not see that Joe is owned by the progressives now and the progressives hate her.

Ahhhh,,,, politics aside, and I know this is beating a dead horse that the entire world is aware of... but there is no way poor Joe is gonna be mentally fit enough to run for a second term.
And what a great back-door way for the DNC to get rid of Kamala at the same time.

Biden is the incumbent it’s standard that there are no debates. You know that. Trump is running as the incumbent Republican nominee and I don’t knock him In foregoing debates. He doesn’t need them to win.

Things are too fragile in the dem party for there to be room for others to grandstand and spout off right now.
Bernie and Pokey and others have two pigs that they have to help put lipstick on. One is Joe. And the other is Kamala. Not an easy task.

Trump may not debate, but he shouldn't expect any other support other than his base - which is waning by the day and not enough at this point to bring him over the finish line.
I have actually not bought into the idea that Joe will be running for a second term either, despite all these announcements etc. He still has to cross over an eighteen month period before the election and that is A LOT for Joe.
I am just saying that I believe that Susan Rice left because there is nothing be gained by hanging around Biden anymore. The slot she wants is not presently open, not now and now not for 2024. If Joe's plans shit the bed then she can still make whatever moves she had in mind before. I just don't think she left to run. But don't think for a minute that she does not follow Joe's health more than Joe does. She is an opportunist even if Plan A fails.
Some of this gets obtuse, and viewers may say "wtf, what is done is done. just accept it." Yeh, that sounds rational, except acknowledging that Joe is fragile is what accepting reality looks like. Not pretending that he is not.
Under the heading of "coming events."
You can expect to start seeing lots of legally fluffy articles and analysis of what happens if a nominee dies after being nominated at the convention but before the election. That'll be sign that people are feeling shaky about this whole set-up. And there are years ahead.

Yep. The DNC works to protect the incumbent and other candidates should respect that.
Ted Kennedy, not knowing this, challenged Carter and won 12 primaries wherein Kennedy did not win but weakened Carter to the point where he could not win either.
Funny dat. And don't think for a minute that the DNC does not worry about that scenario given the fact that Joe is weaker than Carter. And, hey, just to show that although history does not repeat it at least rhymes, we even have a Kennedy in the race too. The good old days iz back. Including the Carter inflation.
The debates are mostly bullshit. If they were real debates I would see it as a loss but I have no interest in these scenarios where you wait to see them go head to head and then they do a couple hours of videos of questioners from Bayou LaFouche, Louisiana and Post Falls, Idaho.

Two quick questions. Doesn't Susan potentially hold the ultimate Dem power card if she wants it... the vaunted Barack and Michelle endorsement?
And two... do you think Hillary throw her hat in the ring once again? If not, wouldn't she back Rice too? Rice worked in the Clinton Administration,,, not sure if she is cozy with Hillary though. Bill would probably endorse her.... he just goes with the flow I think.
