What’s important here is the motivating factor behind the payoff. What really matters is the evidence the prosecutors have developed to this effect.

I, for one, don’t see the point in pursuing this so many years later. However, I would like to point out that some geniuses on the right advocated the prosecution of Hillary Clinton under the espionage act so how you can square supporting that and oppose this takes a lot of pretzel bending.

I honestly thought Trump had successfully ran out the clock on this statute of limitations. I think it was even reported as such. Keep in mind this is all Trump saying this...we haven't heard from NYS I don't think.

What is important here is that the defendant is Donald Trump and he has been targeted for political reasons. That is the "motivating factor" as you call it.

I don’t disagree at this point being so long after the act there has to be political motivations moving this along, or some kind of personal interest over public interest.

On the other hand, the public interest may be in setting guide rails for campaigns. Which brings me back to the original point, we don’t know what evidence has been developed.

As far as the "day late" part there never was a time when this should have been prosecuted. It has always been politically motivated. The dems love to make the "no man is above the law argument" but no man should be below the law either. This is a petty bullshit case. No one is getting prosecuted for this bullshit in NYC. Thousands and thousands of violent felons and uninvested crimes occurring and the prosecutor reaches down to this bullshit case and obsesses over trying to get a conviction.

There is only one reason, and it is the obvious one. It's a dirty case. Meanwhile Alvin Bragg has enabled and facilitated the deaths of many New Yorkers by focusing on this type of thing while giving a pass to true criminals who are a threat to the public. Lots of blood on his hands. But, yeh, let's focus on Stormy Daniels.

Here’s the thing with Trump’s potential rivals, they’re all scared of him. If DeSantis had an allegedly impending arrest for paying off a porn star to keep quiet about a tryst they had while his wife was home with their new born baby, Trump would hammering DeSantis with it, Pence, and whoever else.

Christie saying this will somehow benefit Trump, maybe, and it’s because Trumps rivals are chicken to use the ammo they have. This is actually a great opportunity for DeSantis but he thinks making the case that he wasn’t really raise in Tampa Bay is the way to go. Morons.

I don't completely agree with your assertion that Trump's opponents are just doing this or that because they are afraid of them, but since there is an element of truth to that where it applies, I will not argue against it.

More precisely though, I think that DeSantis, for example, has very credible poll info that shows that the one thing that republican voters do not like is Trump criticizing DeSantis, even if they are not a DeSantis voter. They think he is the only republican that was a winner in the last election and that he brings a credible record and should not be trashed. So DeSantis has reasons other than fear why he would just let things play out with Trump raging and flailing around without DeSantis having to get involved in that mud wrestle. And it applies to Trumps other opponents as well to some degree. There may be some fear there but I also think there are some smarts at play based on having seen the Trump movie before- ie. you need to choose your battles and not just deplete your energy mud wrestling with Trump. You/Usual Tard will argue that that just lets Trump steamroller on. but others, myself included, think he has not won much lately and continues to have problems so they do not need to use their powder on him while he is blowing both feet off with things like this Stormy Daniels/Let's take back out country bullshit.

It’s Monday, but since we are looking at polling data despite it not being Wednesday, I seen polls too that showed republican voters preferred candidates who they agree with over candidates who they think can win. If memory serves me something like 56/38.

The turnip would be wise taking whatever advantage is offered to him because don’t think Trump is waiting for the right time or the right issue.
